Fight without ink
Your first edition on the net contradicts the old saw.
There is now a way to fight those "who buy ink by the
barrel!" Hang in there. Even we Merc-News readers and unionists in
the South Bay are behind you.
-- George Datz
Good Egg
Congratulations on an excellent, if embryonic, newspaper. One
question: who needs the Hearsts when you can just set up your
own operation?
--Michel Chaouli
Freedom in Space
Just had a look at your latest edition on the
Web...congratulations on your fine work...you've proven that
this technology is a two edge sword, and in
the process made A..J. Leibling turn over in his
grave...freedom of the press is no longer the preserve just of
those rich enough to own one...long live the Free Press!
-- Richard Wallace, editor in chief Electronic Engineering
Times.
Tasteful HTML
Kudos to the Free Press for the best electronic edition. It is
nice to see that someone knows how to put together an HTML page
correctly and tastefully (the content, of course, continues
with the same strength as before).
-- Kent E.Soule
Free Press, for Free
Nice work bringing the Free Press online, it's good to know I
don't have to miss Carroll and Caen while the strike is on... I
feel like I'm getting away with something for free though. Is
there a place to make donations?
-- Evan Hunt
Faster than the other guys
Congratulations on your service! It was great to be able to
read Herb Caen today!
Your connection is much faster than the Chronicle's, too -- it
takes forever to read anything on their Web server, for some
reason. And, of course, there is no mention in any of the
articles they offer of how to access your service!
Good luck in the strike!!!
-- Tyler
Editors' note: If our readers are interested in checking them
out, the Chronicle's and Examiner's on-line newspapers are
on the web at http://sfgate.com/. Compare and contrast and let us know
what you think (and let them know too!!!).
Sick of Strikes
I have to say I really like getting the SF Free Press using
WWW. It is
great to see this kind of creativity during the strike period.
I have to tell you that I am sick of strikes. Being a sports
fan, this has
been a bad year and I am tired of work stoppages. It bothers
me to see the
violence of the strikers on the news at night and the property
destruction.
I would be much more likely to be sympathetic to your cause if
the union
members were less violent.
Keep up the good work on the Free Press. I would even pay for
it versus a
morning paper if you made it complete.
-- Phil Roemer
Keep Fighting
Just finished reading your WWW page and it was great! Though it
seems
strange reading Herb Caen without the Macys ad along side it I
really
enjoyed reading it. Keep fighting for a decent contract! By the
way a
friend of a friend heard from another friend that new
subscriptions are
picking up at other newspapers around the bay area. ;-) Good
luck and
don't give up!
-- Jeff Jones
