Election results to be available online

Voters turn to internet sources to find out who won, lost, what won, lost

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 7, 1994 -- Several online services and providers will be making election results and campaign information available via the Internet. Here are some of the sources.

The California Voter Foundation has background information on candidates for state offices and initiatives. It can be accessed either through a gopher server (gopher.kn.pacbell.com) or the World Wide Web (http://www.mit.edu/projects/ppp/home.html). The foundation's data base also can be accessed through America Online's Internet Center.

Project Vote Smart has information on candidates for federal offices and on some candidates for governor. In addition to biographical information, Project Vote Smart has information on voting records, campaign contributions, political alliances and history. It can be accessed through Northeastern University's gopher server (gopher.neu.edu) or by calling the group's bulletin board (1-503-737-3777).

Election results from the Secretary of State will be available either through a gopher (gopher.election.ca.gov) or on the World Wide Web (http://www.election.digital.com) or (http://www.election.cal.gov).
