Lone GOP Supervisor dumped from S.F. board

Mayor's appointee Conroy comes in sixth in race for five slots

SAN FRANCISCO --
In an outcome that defied the nationwide GOP sweep, San Francisco voters tossed the lone Republican off the city's Board of Supervisors.

Annemarie Conroy, a 30-year-old attorney and Jordan appointee to the board, had been predicted to fare well in the board racce. Instead, she came in sixth, after most of the voters were counted, one slot short of winning one of the five available board seats.

Several thousand absentee ballots remained uncounted, but Jordan chief of staff Jim Wunderman said Conroy's defeat was certain. "This is amazing," Wunderman said. "This is going to make things more difficult for us."

The two favorites for the board presidency, incumbents Carole Migden and Kevin Shelley, were virtually tied for first place, with the uncounted ballots left to decide the race.

Other winners included incumbent Susan Leal, former school board member Tom Ammiano and employment consultant Mabel Teng.
